SRC Questions SUG President, Financial Secretary Over Account Statement, Approves 10 Budgets
The Students' Representative Council (SRC) of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic held a meeting at Adekunle Ajasin Auditorium on June 18, 2026, during which members of the council sought clarification from the 36th Students' Union Government (SUG) President, Onile Olaniyi Mayowa, and the Financial Secretary, Adegboye Adewale, over issues relating to the union's statement of account.
During the session, the Senate President, Divine Adebayo, requested that both officials explain financial transactions and account details that had been raised during the council's previous sitting.
Responding to the concerns, the SUG President and the Financial Secretary defended the union's financial records, maintaining that no expenditure had been made without the knowledge of the Senate President. They insisted that due process was followed in the management of the union's finances.
The meeting also featured questions from senators regarding an earlier statement made by the SUG President concerning difficulties linked to his National Identification Number (NIN). A senator questioned how financial transactions were carried out from the union's account despite the reported issue.
In response, Comrade Onile clarified that he did not have any serious challenge with his NIN. According to him, the statement was made in the context of ensuring the smooth progress of his administration and should not be interpreted as an obstacle to the operation of the union's account.
Following deliberations, the SRC considered budget proposals submitted by the SUG President. Out of the sixteen budget requests presented to the council, ten were approved by the Senate, while the remaining proposals were not approved during the sitting.
The meeting also featured the formal introduction of senators and their respective constituencies, providing members with the opportunity to familiarize themselves with representatives from various departments and units within the institution.
The sitting formed part of the SRC's oversight responsibility to promote accountability, transparency, and effective representation within the Students' Union Government.
