Fresh findings have emerged regarding the identity of the individual earlier linked to Rufus Giwa Polytechnic (RUGIPO) following his death in an off-campus residence.
According to preliminary investigations conducted with the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Emure-Ile and the father of the deceased, the young man, identified as Audu Emmanuel, was not a registered student of the institution at the time of his death.
Sources revealed that the deceased had secured admission through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) into Computer Science (full-time) for the 2024/2025 academic session but reportedly never resumed for lectures or participated in any academic activities.
Further findings indicate that in January 2026, he visited the institution with his father to obtain a National Diploma (ND) part-time application form in Computer Science. However, the admission process was said to be incomplete before the ongoing industrial action began.
This clarification also corrects earlier reports which mistakenly identified the deceased as a student of Computer Engineering. Investigations confirm that he was associated with Computer Science and had not been formally enrolled as a student at the time of the incident.
The incident, which occurred in the Emure-Ile area of Owo, had initially generated widespread concern within the student community.
Police authorities had earlier described the case as a suspected suicide, while investigations remain ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the death.
