The long-awaited Students’ Union Executive Council (SUEC) election of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO), is being held today, Friday, November 7, 2025.
According to the Independent Students’ Electoral Committee (ISEC), the election is being conducted through an E-voting system, which is open from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Eligible students who have completed their biodata and screening processes are allowed to access the electoral platform to cast their votes.
The Dean of Students’ Affairs, Mr. Henry OluIbrahimo, addressed all aspirants and their agents before the commencement of voting. He urged them to maintain peace, orderliness, and discipline throughout the election process.
Mr. Henry reminded everyone that in every contest, one person must win while another must lose, emphasizing that love, unity, and mutual respect should remain the foundation of student leadership.
He further advised all aspirants to accept the election results in good faith and to uphold the integrity of the institution by ensuring the election remains free, fair, and credible.
Also addressing the gathering, a security police officer, Hamzat B. O., appealed to all agents and students to maintain peace and order. He stressed the importance of obeying school regulations and ISEC’s electoral rules, urging everyone to cooperate fully to ensure a smooth and transparent electoral process.
The ISEC committee reaffirmed its commitment to fairness and transparency, assuring students that all forms of hacking, manipulation, or irregularities have been effectively prevented through strict digital monitoring and secure voting systems.
As voting continues, students across all faculties are actively participating, choosing the leaders who will represent them in the 2025/2026 academic session. The atmosphere on campus remains calm and well-coordinated, with security officers, ISEC members, and observers working together to maintain peace and order.
Results are expected to be announced shortly after the close of voting.
