The Independent Students’ Electoral Committee (ISEC) of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO) has officially declared Comrade Onile Olaniyi, popularly known as OLA, as the newly elected Students’ Union Executive Council (SUEC) President for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The announcement was made by the Chairman of ISEC, Sen. Hope Jonathan, following the successful conduct of the Students’ Union election held on Friday, November 7, 2025, at the institution’s ICT Centre.
According to the official results obtained by the RUGIPO Press, Onile Olaniyi secured a total of 1,093 votes, defeating his closest rival, Comrade Ajama Dein Desmond, who polled 845 votes.
In the Vice Presidential race, Comrade Temitope Florence emerged victorious with 1,117 votes, ahead of Fatomilola Grace, who garnered 612 votes.
For the position of General Secretary, Comrade Fabiyi Emmanuel clinched the seat with 1,130 votes, defeating Olugbenga Samson, who polled 423 votes. Meanwhile, Comrade Akinola Israel Opeyemi was elected as Assistant General Secretary with 585 votes, ahead of Obaya Seun, who had 314 votes.
The position of Financial Secretary was won by Comrade Adegboye Adewale, who secured 580 votes, while Comrade Omolaja Bankole polled 444 votes. For the Treasurer position, Comrade Afolabi Sunday emerged winner with 692 votes, defeating Oyebade Sarah, who scored 205 votes.
In the race for Social Director, Comrade Amuseghan Isaac Gbenga polled 502 votes and was returned unopposed, while Comrade Felix Gbenga was elected as Public Relations Officer with 1,064 votes, defeating Peter Edwin Abiodun, who polled 334 votes.
For the Sport Director position, Comrade Fasakin Bodunde won with 809 votes, against Mukaila Kazeem, who polled 333 votes. Additionally, Comrade Ogunlade Emmanuel Ayomide emerged as Welfare Director with 571 votes, also unopposed.
Before the election commenced, the Dean of Students’ Affairs, Mr. Henry OluIbrahimo, addressed all aspirants and agents, urging them to maintain peace, love, and unity throughout the process. He emphasized that in every election, there must be both winners and losers, but harmony and mutual respect should prevail above all. Mr. Henry further advised all participants to ensure a free, fair, and credible election, while commending the ISEC for its organizational efforts.
The 2025/2026 SUEC election has been widely regarded as one of the most competitive and engaging in recent years, reflecting the strong democratic spirit and leadership enthusiasm among students of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo.
