Following a publication written by one Stephen Olumide Ogunleye of Visionary foremost book club attacking the Management of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo of shabby academic standard, A student of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (Rugipo), Miss Oloyede Mariam has lambasted the writer of politically motivated circulating article, saying the publication is far from the truth.

Ogunleye in a deceitful article posted on a Whatsapp group and sighted by our correspondent alleged the management of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo of deceiving people as far as academics is concerned.

Ogunleye said; "the only Institution in Nigeria that deceives people is Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo. 

However, In her response, Mariam said Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo is honest in all and the institution's historical and contemporary achievements are noteworthy.

Mariam said "to start with, according to the 2022 data of National Board For Technical Education (NBTE),there are more than 160 Federal, State and Private owned Polytechnics in Nigeria, undoubtedly, Rufus Giwa Polytechnic is one of the top ranked with students from more than 20 states in the country.

"It is hypocrisy and deception when an individual with little or no knowledge about this institution and its system of management poison-pen an article just for pleasure and malicious motives.

"It’s very dangerous to be cooking false stories just to mislead the public and it is a fabricated claim that some newly admitted students were offered admission via their cell phones without presenting their O’level results. Meanwhile, O’levels result is the most important requirement of the details which an admission seeker to this institution is mandatorily expected to present in his/her admission form and as a student, it’s compulsory to present your registered O’Levels results at all categories during your screening exercise at ND and HND levels to be registered as a student of the school.

”Let it be known that no student of this institution is without a minimum of eight credits in their Senior Secondary School Certificate with English Language and Mathematics as ‘compulsory’ subjects.When you can’t apply for admission without O’Levels results,how can you be given admission without it?

"I am a student of this institution and I can boldly say that despite having Eight Credits in my O’Levels and 224 in UTME,it was a hard and thorough one to get admitted here and I know that graduates,students and the newly admitted are proud to be in this school because we all know what it takes to be here and to graduate from here.

"Despite the deteriorating condition of education in Nigeria,we have good records of outstanding RUGIPO students who brilliantly represented the school in National competitions and won .

"Some of the recent ones are: In 2021, Akinlolu Olalekan Vincent ,Olatunji  Emmanuel  Ayobami, Olusayero Fikesola  Joy won the 3rd National Prize for HUAWEI ICT COMPETITION with Akinlolu Olalekan Vincent winning the overall best student in the competition where Afe Babalola university ,University  Of  Ibadan and university of Port-Harcourt won 1st, 2nd and 4th positions respectively,

"I am an HND 2 Student of Mass Communication in this institution and I was the only Polytechnic student among others from UI, LASU, BABCOCK, AAU, UNILAG and UNIILORIN in South West selected by AFRICA FOUNDATION FOR YOUNG MEDIA PROFESSIONALS to train for a Campus Journalism Program in Ibadan some months ago.

"Apart from these people,we have many other outstanding graduates and students of the institutions that are making the society proud.

She further stressed that the management and lecturers of RUGIPO are intensifying in their efforts everyday to be future builders and not grave diggers as alleged in the publication by providing a favorable learning environment, motivation, encouragement and good moral support for students who are ready to comply with the standards of the school.

"During the 29th matriculation ceremony held in the institution Friday, August 19th 2022, The Rector,Mr Gani Ogundahunsi said”let it be known to all students that if you are advised to withdraw, it is an order” and since I got admitted to this school for my National Diploma in 2017, I’ve seen some students who were asked to Withdraw from the school as a result of their inabilities to meet up with the school’s academic standards.This is enough to know that the school is Zero tolerant and rigid to academics indiscipline.

"Furthermore, from my first year till this moment as a student of this school,I’ve been through more than 20 lecturers and I can boldly say we have many competent lecturers to handle different courses in their various fields.

"We cannot close eyes to a free writing individual questioning the effectiveness of our lecturers.

"Finally, because of the institution’s principles against indiscipline, certainly, management will conduct a thorough investigation into the validity of alleged payments of money for tests and examinations and proper punishments will be melted out to lecturers and students found guilty.

"Ultimately, the 42 years history of this institution will always be promoted and maintained"

She however urged the author of the publication to stop using words to stain the institution's certificate as if it is not acquired with hardwork. 

"Stop planting poison on our certificate, Stop writing things against our certificate as we are proud of Rugipo and Rugipo is proud of us" She said.
