Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO), on Thursday, February 19, 2026, formally admitted newly students during a colourful and well-attended matriculation ceremony held at the institution’s 800-Seater Auditorium.
The ceremony commenced with matriculating students assembling near the auditorium according to their respective departments. Shortly after, principal officers of the Polytechnic, members of the Academic Board, Deans of Faculties, Directors of various centres, and other top management staff gathered at the Academic Board Chamber ahead of the academic procession.
The procession began with faculty officers leading the matriculating students into the auditorium. This was followed by the Students’ Union procession, led by the Director of Student Affairs, and subsequently the Academic Board procession, led by the Director of the Academic Board.
The Rector’s procession, comprising Deans of Faculties, Directors of the Continuing Education Centre and Artisan Centre, the Dean of Students, the Chairman of the Committee of Deans, Principal Officers, and the Acting Rector, then made its entrance. In line with academic tradition, the audience stood as the procession entered and remained standing for the rendition of the National Anthem and the Polytechnic Anthem.
Proceedings continued with the Acting Registrar formally inviting the Acting Rector, Dr. Olorunwa Simon Adegun, to constitute the assembly as a congregation for the matriculation of the fresh students. In his declaration, the Acting Rector constituted the congregation and affirmed that the students had been duly offered provisional admission into their various programmes.
In his address, Dr. Adegun disclosed that the Polytechnic has gained international recognition, including acknowledgment from Toronto, Canada, and has entered into partnership with a Lagos-based company aimed at enhancing institutional development.
The Deans of Faculties and Directors were subsequently invited to present their students for matriculation. Faculties presented included Agricultural Technology, Applied Sciences, Business Studies, Engineering Technology, Environmental Studies, and Social Sciences and Communication Studies, alongside the Continuing Education Centre and the Artisan Centre.
Following the presentation, the Acting Registrar administered the Pledge of Obedience to the students. In the solemn declaration, the students pledged loyalty to the Polytechnic, obedience to its authorities, and commitment to upholding its rules and regulations. They also vowed to pursue their studies diligently and refrain from immoral or destructive conduct throughout their stay in the institution.
Thereafter, the Acting Rector, by the authority of the Academic Board, formally admitted the students as bona fide students of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, and charged them to uphold the highest standards of academic excellence and good conduct. The announcement was greeted with applause from staff, parents, and well-wishers present at the ceremony.
The event concluded with the formal declaration of the congregation’s closure by the Acting Rector and the rendition of the RUGIPO Anthem. The academic procession exited in reverse order, marking the end of the ceremony. The signing of the matriculation register by the newly admitted students is scheduled to take place subsequently.
The 2026 matriculation ceremony marks another milestone in the Polytechnic’s academic calendar, underscoring its commitment to excellence, discipline, and character development.
