The Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, has resolved to intensify its ongoing protest rather than embark on a strike action.
The decision was reached during a congress held at the Adekunle Ajasin Auditorium within the institution. The meeting, which brought together union members to deliberate on the next line of action, was presided over by the Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics (SSANIP).
During the congress, members considered the option of declaring a strike but unanimously agreed to sustain the protest, which enters its sixth day on Monday. The union resolved to return to the institution’s main gate to continue demonstrating their grievances.
Addressing members at the meeting, the union chairman stated that remaining at home would not yield meaningful results, particularly as the government had yet to respond positively to their demands. He emphasized that maintaining a visible presence at the school gate would reinforce their message and demonstrate unity among workers.
The chairman also disclosed plans to reintroduce television coverage to further amplify their cause and attract public attention to their demands.
Members were encouraged to remain steadfast, with union leaders assuring them that the leadership would not compromise or betray the collective interest of the workforce.
With the protest set to continue, attention now shifts to the response of the Ondo State Government and the management of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo.
