Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo(RUGIPO) on Friday, October 24, 2025. Held its Convocation Jumat Service at the Polytechnic Mosque as part of the week-long activities marking the 2025 Combined Convocation Ceremony of the institution.
The spiritual event attracted members of management, staff, students, graduands and the entire Muslim community of the Polytechnic, all gathered in an atmosphere of worship, gratitude, and reflection.
Opening prayer by Alhaja Kasali, followed by a Qur’anic recitation by Tijani Saoban. The Chairman of the RUGIPO Muslim Community, Mr. Okoro, in his welcome address, expressed appreciation to Almighty Allah for His continued grace upon the institution and commended the Acting Rector and his management team for their commitment to academic revival and religious harmony on campus.
Special prayers were also offered for the Governor of Ondo State and the Acting Rector by Imam Basaru, while Alhaji Yunus Olaeye prayed for the management team and the entire Polytechnic community. The Nabul Imam, Alhaja Kasali, also led prayers for the graduating students, asking Almighty Allah to bless their efforts and grant them success in their future careers.
Delivering the day’s sermon titled “Education and Piety: Requisites for a Virile Society,” the Chief Imam of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Imam Raji T. O, commended the leadership of the Acting Rector and the Ondo State Government for their sincere efforts to restore the Polytechnic lost glory.He said the successful convocation after several years was a clear testimony of divine favor and good governance.
Imam Raji also warned that knowledge without piety is a dangerous weapon, stressing that education must be guided by moral integrity and the fear of Allah. He condemned moral decay and corruption in society, urging lecturers, administrators, and students to use their knowledge to serve humanity with sincerity and humility. He advised the graduands to let their certificates represent not just learning but also responsibility, honesty, and service.
The Chief Imam further reminded the congregation that true progress begins with gratitude and obedience to Allah. He encouraged everyone to remain thankful in all circumstances, adding that gratitude attracts divine favor.
The Rector’s representative, Mr. Ayodele, commended both staylite and outgoing students for their discipline and cooperation during their stay in the institution. He urged the graduands to remain good ambassadors of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic wherever they go, reminding them that their character and conduct will speak louder than their certificates.
Furthermore , the Acting Registrar, Mr. Aderemi Adeolu, who was represented at the event, appreciated the growth of the Muslim community and made a generous donation of ₦20,000 towards the ongoing Islamic Building Project within the Polytechnic. The service was rounded off with a closing prayer by Alhaja Basiah.
The Convocation Jumat Service ended on a joyful note, with participants expressing gratitude to Almighty Allah for the progress of the Polytechnic and praying for continuous peace, growth, and success for both the institution and its graduates. The event marked another memorable moment in the history of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, reflecting the balance of faith, education, and community development that the institution continues to uphold.
