As part of activities marking the ongoing 2025 Convocation Ceremony, the management of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO) officially commissioned several TETFUND-sponsored projects on Friday, October 24, 2025, at the institution’s campus.
The event commenced with an opening prayer, followed by the rendition of the National Anthem and the RUGIPO Anthem, before proceeding to the official program of the day.
In his welcome address, the Acting Rector, Mr. Olorunwa Simon Adegun, warmly welcomed distinguished guests, faculty members, parents, and graduating students. He described the occasion as “a momentous event celebrating both academic excellence and infrastructural growth.”
Mr. Adegun noted that the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) allocated ₦4.089 billion for the construction and remodeling of key facilities, including the Senate Building and the Faculty of Law Complex, underscoring the institution’s commitment to excellence in education and innovation.
“These projects represent a major investment in RUGIPO’s infrastructure and academic excellence. We are deeply grateful to TETFUND, the Federal Government, and the Ondo State Government for their unwavering support,” he stated.
He further encouraged staff and students to make effective use of the new facilities to enhance teaching, learning, and research within the Polytechnic.
Representing TETFUND at the event, Arc. Sonny Echono, Executive Secretary of the agency, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to improving Nigeria’s tertiary education system. He described the commissioned projects as part of a broader initiative to address infrastructural gaps in higher institutions, including improved accommodation, power supply, and digital learning facilities.
“We remain committed to ensuring that every Nigerian has access to quality education. Interventions like these are essential in driving sustainable development and national growth,” Echono said.
Also in attendance was Hon. Sunday Adepoju, the TETFUND South-West Zonal Representative, who acknowledged RUGIPO’s collaboration with the agency. He emphasized that TETFUND continues to play a vital role in promoting research development, staff training, and institutional capacity-building across Nigerian tertiary institutions.
Two traditional rulers also graced the event — His Royal Highness, Prince Bankole Adeyefa (Elemure of Emure-Ile, Owo), and the Kabiyesi of Iyere Community in the Owo Kingdom.
Following the formal addresses, the commissioning ceremony began with the unveiling of newly completed structures, including the Applied Science Building, Applied Science Home Theatre, Academic Office Building, and the Faculty of Engineering Building, all commissioned by Hon. Sunday Adepoju.
The event marked another significant milestone in RUGIPO’s history, blending the joy of convocation with the advancement of institutional infrastructure — a testament to the Polytechnic’s continued pursuit of academic and technical excellence.
