The Combined Convocation and Award Night of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO) was held on Wednesday, October 2025, at the Governing Council Chamber. The event, which commenced at 5:30 p.m., was filled with celebration, honor, and recognition of excellence, bringing together distinguished guests, staff, students, and members of the Polytechnic community.
The program began with an opening remark and address by the Acting Rector, Mr. Olorunwa Simon Adegun, who warmly appreciated the efforts of all staff, students, and organizers for their commitment and dedication to the success of the institution.
In his inspiring address, Mr. Adegun stated,
“The convocation ceremony will not end here; this is a new phase of redemption for RUGIPO, and RUGIPO will stand again.”
His words were met with applause, symbolizing renewed hope and unity for the Polytechnic’s growth and progress.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of Awards of Excellence to notable individuals who have made significant contributions to education and the institutional advancement of RUGIPO.
The awardees included Senator Okuriboje, Mr. J.P. Ogundahunsi (former Rector), Mrs. Aderinsola, Chief Jo Adewumi, Dr. Odusola David, Dr. Olayinka Taibat Jinadu, Engr. Dr. M.C.S. Opegemisi Makinde, Dr. Awosebi, and Mr. Akintan.
All the honorees received the Award of Excellence in recognition of their selfless service, leadership, and invaluable contributions to the development of the Polytechnic community.
In addition to the honor awards, five outstanding students were presented with scholarship awards for their exceptional academic performance and commitment to excellence.
The gesture was widely applauded and served as an inspiration to other students to strive for academic distinction.
The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr. Olayinka Taibat Jinadu, who expressed heartfelt appreciation on behalf of all the awardees to the Polytechnic management and organizing team for the recognition and honor.
The Registrar, Mr. O.M. Oloyed, gave the closing speech, commending everyone who contributed to the success of the ceremony and reaffirming the institution’s commitment to excellence.
The memorable evening ended with the rendition of the National Anthem, marking the close of a remarkable event that reflected unity, celebration, and renewed hope for Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo.
