The 35th Student Union Government (SUG) wishes to announce the official opening of the TETFund-sponsored public toilets located at Millennium and Low Rice areas for the benefit of the Polytechnic community.
This initiative is part of the Union’s commitment to promoting proper hygiene, safeguarding student health, and providing access to essential sanitary facilities on campus.
Speaking on the development, the SUG President, Leo Comrade Shane Thompson Aigbodion, noted that the facilities had remained under lock and key for over six years. He emphasized that their reopening, effective 25th August 2025, marks a significant step in addressing long-standing sanitation challenges faced by students.
The President further explained that the project aligns with the Union’s broader mission of ensuring a healthier learning environment and discouraging practices such as open defecation.
To sustain the facilities, the SUG in collaboration with the polytechnic management, agreed that each use will attract a token fee of ₦100. This fee is designated to cover maintenance, operational costs, and ensure that the facilities remain in good condition for long term use.
In addition, attendants will be stationed at the toilets to oversee smooth operations, maintain cleanliness, and uphold orderliness.
The Union appeals to all students to embrace this development, use the facilities responsibly, and comply with the payment system, thereby ensuring the sustainability of the project.
“The provision of these sanitary facilities goes beyond convenience; it is a step toward dignity, hygiene, and creating a supportive environment for academic excellence,” Comrade Shane stated.
The Student Union Government remains committed to initiatives that enhance student welfare and calls for the collective support of the student body to make this project a lasting success.
