Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO), an Ondo state-owned institution, organized an orientation program today for its National Diploma (ND1) students preparing for the Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES).

The event, held at the institution's 800-seater auditorium, was attended by the Acting Rector, Mr. Adegun Olorunwa, and other top officials of the polytechnic.

During his address, Mr. Olorunwa encouraged the students to embrace the SIWES program wholeheartedly, stressing the importance of their active participation in their assigned placements as it offers invaluable practical experience.

"Any polytechnic student in a technology-related field who graduates without the necessary skills to solve societal challenges has merely wasted their time in the polytechnic," Mr. Olorunwa remarked.

He urged the students to make the most of the scheme, which is designed to equip them with hands-on experience in industries, factories, and workplaces during the 2024 SIWES program.

He also advised the students to remain focused and represent the polytechnic well in their various places of assignment.

In her address, the Director of SIWES, Mrs. Ologunagba M. Modupe, emphasized the significance of full participation in the scheme. She explained that SIWES provides students with the opportunity to acquire industrial skills and practical experience relevant to their fields of study.

She further noted that the scheme aims to expose students to advanced work methods and the operation of industrial machinery and equipment that may not be available in their institution.
