The Faculty of Business Studies at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic (RUGIPO) held its ABS Congress Meeting on Wednesday, October 23, 2024.
The meeting, held at the Faculty of Business Studies Lecture Theatre (FBSLT), was attended by the Dean, Mr. Olopete, the Faculty Adviser, Prince Leke Olagbegi Olateru, the Student Union Government (SUG) executives, faculty executives, and departmental leaders.
During the session, various departments presented their challenges.
The Office Technology and Management (OTM) department raised concerns about its laboratory, which is in dire need of repairs, as well as its unclean environment.
It emphasized the need for a more conducive learning space, noting that their computers and typewriters are malfunctioning, and urged the faculty to address these issues.
In contrast, the Accounting Department reported it was not facing any significant challenges.
Prince Leke Olagbegi Olateru, the Faculty Adviser, addressed the upcoming faculty and departmental elections, asking each candidate to introduce themselves and the positions they are vying for.
He offered advice, emphasizing the importance of wisdom, unity, and collaboration for those aspiring to be faculty or departmental executives.
He further reassured those running for Student Union Government (SUG) positions, stating that even if they do not secure SUG roles, there are still opportunities at the faculty or departmental level.
Comrade Omote Temidayo Isaac, the SUG President, expressed concern about the high number of candidates from the Public Administration Department running for SUG positions, urging a more balanced representation across departments. He noted that some departments only had one contestant, while others had none.
In response, the Faculty Adviser mentioned that some candidates, particularly for the positions of SUG Vice President and SUG Treasurer, would be stepping down, and that other candidacies would be reviewed before the elections. Compose Message
