The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP), Rufus Giwa Polytechnic,Owo Chapter, has demanded improved welfarism as a condition for participating in the conduct of second semester examination of the current session.The declaration is contained in the communique issued on 29th November, 2023, signed by ASUP Chairman, Comr. S. Arikawe and Comr. Fapetu O. Victor, General Secretary RUGIPO Chapter.
The management is urged in the communique to commence payment of promotion arrears of members of staff which have remained unattended to since 2015 till date.The unit wants payment to begin from March 2023, salary.
Therefore, the Union strongly demands for immediate payment of the remaining ten months outstanding salary arrears before the commencement of the second semester examination of 2022/2023 academic session.
Failure to meet the demands by management will compel the staff to abstain from participating in forthcoming second semester examination, earlier scheduled to hold in December, 2023.
Regarding upgrading of Polytechnic to university, the union is not against the development. However, the Union is holding a consultation with relevant stakeholders, and its position will be made known to the government very soon.
