The Information and Communication Technology Department of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo (RUGIPO), has explained the rationale behind the suspension of the long-awaited Students Union Government (SUG) election.
The Institution's Director of ICT, Mr. Adeoni Olusegun who doused looming tension caused by the unexpected halt in the electoral process, said his office received lists of contestants late on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, and had been working tirelessly to surmount the herculean task.
Adeoni stated this in a way forward meeting held with the Council of Governors led by Comr. Obadaye Temitope, on Thursday.
He also hinged his excuse on sever congestion and limited resources provided to carry out the exercise meant to elect students' officers that will pilot the union for another period.
Alternatively, the Director said that if the issues which led to suspension of the students election persisted, the department would switch to local networking election, which he described as Plan b.
“Moreso, there will be a Demo local networking election in other to test-run this, Some students will be needed for the sake of transparency and he promised 24hours electricity supply to avoid power failure in the voting process.
“Only students with Identification card (ID card) and the full payment of their school fee receipt will only be entitle to vote.
“Reasons why some students did not received the E-code for voting was due to half payment of tuition, outstanding verification and acceptance fees
The election will be conducted successfully on Tuesday 16th May 2023, Adeoni assured.
Corroborating his boss, a technical staff of the Dept, Engr. Obafemi Bello placated the worried students, saying that the server was not hacked, adding that the staff manning it had the undisputed proficiency to ensure free and fair election.
