There is a palpable tension in Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo as the Students Representative Council (SRC) prematurely adjourned the second constitutional sitting yesterday, due to an error of omission made by the Chief clerk while reading the minute of the last meeting.
The actions on Tuesday 21st July, 2022 at Central Cafe, generated mixed reactions amongst the senators of the citadel of knowledge.
Our correspondent who was at the meeting observed that the conflict ordinarily cannot turn to a violent if they understand themselves.
However, the 2nd constitutional sitting proceed with the reading of the minutes of the last sitting in which the Chief clerk of the hallow chamber read the minutes to all members of house.
The Chief clerk, Senator Augustine Idowu, having read the minutes, the senate president, Omoyungbo Tobiloba ask the members of the house if there is any omission from the last sitting in the minute.
A Motion was raised by Senator Aderibaki Bidemi, that the Chief Clerk did not include the issue of the senate president not standing on when the school anthem and the national anthem was recited in the last sitting, asking why he did not include it.
Augustine told the house that every minute of the last sitting will be posted on the notice board of every department in the school and it will be a slap and an embarrassment if such issue was included and the Students gets to find out.
Members of the house therefore counter the excuse tabled as a reason for the expungement of that crucial detail, including the Senate President.
The Senate President frown at the act saying full details are expected to be included in the meeting, instructing the Chief Clerk to review the minutes of the last sitting.
"if not, resolving the sitting cannot proceed," He said.
Making a counter motion, one of the Senator, Baba ijo pleaded that justice should be temper with mercy. Saying the Chief Clerk should be forgiven and the sitting should proceed.
The Senate President thereafter ask the house to move a motion of adjournment of the 2nd Constitutional sitting until all the omissions are included in the last meeting.
In his reaction, the Senate President, said when he ask the house to move the motion for the adjournment of the sitting, it was supposed to be seconded and after the seconded a counter motion can now be move in which the members of the house will vote on if the sitting will continue or not but a Senator opposed it saying after an adjournment there is nothing like counter motion.
Meanwhile, the Chief Clerk, Senator Augustine Idowu, while speaking with our correspondent accused the Senate President for having another agenda apart from the cancellation of the meeting because of the omission of some statements in the last sitting's minute
