Afters so many casualties faced by students as the strike continues, the Management, Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo State (Rugipo) has officially announced the day to commence lectures in the institution.
Exactly after the Easter break, the last Monday of the month, 25th of April, 2022 was announced the day to begin lectures.
This was disclosed in a Circular Ref. No RUGIPO/DAA/SCL/2022/04/01 Signed and Released by the Director Academic Affairs Mr. Gbenga Ademiluyi.
"Students are to resume on Sunday 24th April, 2022 for the continuation of Academic activities on Monday, 25th April, 2022." It stated.
However, during an interview with the Student Union President (SUG), Olorunda Oluwafemi Godwin said that the situation is under control as he had discussed with the management, the head of Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnic (SSANIP) and Non Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (NASUP).
According to the president; "there would be a meeting today and this will decide the fate of the strike. Whatever is discussed would determine the next step to take by the union body"
"The union is working co-operatively to make sure the academic calendar is balanced this year" he said.
Godwin further said the strike has been the Genesis of the non availability of power supply and water in the hostel.
Moreover, he said the union have met with the management in order to attend to the issue because students are suffering in the hostel.
The whole student Union body also pleaded with students staying in the hostel to endure for the main time as the situation is under control.
According to the welfare director, Adesida Oluwatoba further explained that one of the reasons the management decided to disconnect the power supply was to avoid any form of casualties in the hostel.
Oluwatoba said; "wiring of the new transformer is the main reason there is no power supply presently in the institution.
"In the process of constructing the wiring of the new transformer, there might be a spark or malfunction of the old transformer which could lead to fire outbreak or excess power generation in the hostel
" For the safety of the Nigerian students, the management have to disconnect the power."
Oluwatoba also assured all students in the hostel that there would be power supply immediately after the completion of the wiring"
