The Dean of Student Affairs, Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO), Mr. Henry Olu BRAIMOH, has Recently said the Student Affairs unit of RUGIPO is to monitor students welfare, social event in the hall of residences among others.
The Dean made this known in an exclusive interview he had with our correspondent in his Office.
Braimoh, who explained that students affairs is responsible for mental health issues of Students and to ensure social, personal, emotional, academics and other issues, said the Students Affairs Unit in the Institution, is also saddled with the responsibility of mobilizing all graduates every year for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as well organizes orientation programme for newly admited students.
He stressed that student affairs unit oversees the disbursement of bursary award to the students by the various states that pay bursary to their Students
The Dean of Student Affairs said; student affairs unit coordinates student activities including Student Representative Council elections (S R C), Students Union Elections (SUG) hall of residence and swearing in ceremony of elected students among others
Speaking on his achievements in office, he highlighted that the present electronic voting (e-voting) adopted by the institution was introduced after he assumed the position as the Dean of Student Affairs of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo.
"When I came on board as the Dean of students affairs, I discovered that SUG, SRC and hall of residence are using the analogy system of voting, but I declined for this is the age of Technology and we need to key into what is happening worldwide by starting with E-voting and we are able to accomplish that by conducting last year election with E-voting.
"Also, I made another reform, students support service which I tagged "SSS", which gives support to the students which Needs our assistance by coming to their aid."he said.
In addition, Braimoh noted that the State owned institution (RUGIPO) which was formerly known and addressed as "The Ondo State Polytechnic,Owo" was established in 1979 and commenced activities in January 1980.
"RUGIPO is one of the Oldest polytechnics in Nigeria.
"All Activities put in Place to Mark the 40th anniversary in year 2020 was unfruitful due to COVID 19 Pandemic globally.
"The Vission Of the State Owned Institution is to be a leading Technological Institution recognized globally for its quality, relevance and impact in the area of training and research for developing people and making a difference locally and globally," he said.
He however urged students to shun violence, drugs, cultism and other vices in order to excel in their academic activities and become useful citizens.
