The Rector of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, (RUGIPO), Mr. Gani Ogundahunsi has expressed optimism in surmounting the current unstable situation facing the institution.


Ogundahunsi revealed this on Wednesday, 20th of October, 2021, during a closed door meeting with some stakeholders and the Student Union Government (S.U.G.) body, which comprises of the Student Union Executive Council (S.U.E.C.), Student Representative Council (S.R.C.) and Student Judicial Council (S.J.C).


In furtherance of this, Ogundahunsi explained that the School Management recently got an appointment with the State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, in order to debate on how to resolve the current crisis facing the citadel over staff unpaid salaries, within the next few days.


He explained that the institution will be holding a crucial Council Meeting with concerned stakeholders today Thursday, 21st of October, 2021., in order to deliberate over the present situation before their appointment with the State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for final resolution. 


However, the indoor meeting, triggered the postponement of the resumption date, earlier scheduled to commence on the 18th of October, 2021, till 29th of October, 2021; which will be accompanied by a new semester calendar.


Meanwhile, Ogundahunsi stressed that he got the information about the indefinite strike action by the Non Academic Staff Union (NANS) and Senior Association of Nigeria Staff (SANIP) lately, while he was away to Kaduna State over the successful approval of the academic programmes by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).


Moreover, the Student Union President, Omoboni Olusola expressed sadness over the postponement of resumption, as a result of the unpalatable situation in the citadel,  because students undergo the hardship mostly, as a result of such circumstances.


Moreso, hostelites and other students who have resumed and are willing to remain in the school premises or campus till the new date of resumption are permitted wait behind and comfort themselves.


Dignitaries present at the meeting includes Rector, Gani Ogundahunsi, Bursar, Mr. Ayodeji Matthew, S.U.G. President, Omoboni Olusola and some Executives, S.R.C. Speaker, Sen. Adebayo Oyenyen, Chief Judge, Rt. Hon. Eze Chris, Faculty President Aladegbaye Sunday (Sunnybrown), among others.
