The Students Judiciary Council (S.J.C.), of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, has sanctioned the ND1 Public Administration (PAD) students, over gross misconduct, which was committed against the citadel, on Wednesday, 30th of June, 2021.
The Chief Judge of the council, Rt. Hon. Barr. Eze Christian made this judgement during the Court proceedings, at Central Cafe Auditorium, on Friday, 16th of July, 2021.
According to report, Christian pronounced the judgement of ''Signing an Undertaking Form of Good Conduct, Paying a fine of Two hundred naira (#200), by each student and rendering of Community Service, which includes Sweeping of the road from the main gate of the institution to Low-rice, Picking of dirt from the Sport Complex to the second gate and thorough cleaning of the Student Union Building (S.U.B), located at the Village area of the institution.
However, it was revealed during the Court proceedings, that the ND1 PAD students released a video records which went viral on social media, displaying an unusual scene whereby, a lecturer was seen lecturing in class, while students were also seen clapping, singing and walking towards the lecturer with some bottles of water and some bottles of wine.
In addendum, it was disclosed at the proceedings that the Accounting Lecturer (Name withheld), only requested for a bottle of water, while the lecture was ongoing, because he was tasty, but the students went the other way round.
In an interview with the Chief Judge, Barr. Eze Christian after the Court judgement, he said ''the ND1 PAD students were charged of Character assassination, disrupting the peace and order of their class and putting the institution's name in jeopardy''.
Christian added that, the Disciplinary Officer of the Council, Barr. Olumekun Seun, who is in charge of such crime, would ensure that the concerned students strictly adhere to the Court judgement.
Moreso, Christian explained that the judgement of the S.J.C., would be tabled before the school Management for final approval, before the commencement of the punishment against the concerned students.
Meanwhile, Christian admonished other students to adhere to the ethics and be good ambassadors of the citadel.
However, in an interview with the Disciplinary Officer, Barr. Olumekun Seun stressed that the offenders who are in their six hundreds (600), would be grouped into different sections (morning or afternoon), in order to enable everyone of them take part in the punishment.
According to Barr. Seun, ''the punishment will not affect their lectures and the punishment might take like three weeks or one month''.
Furthermore, speaking with the defendant in an interview, Deputy Governor of ND1 PAD, Babalola Oluwaseun said, ''I was not in class when the incident happened and when I came to class after the lecture, I discovered that the floor was wet''.
She said, the Accounting lecturer (Name withheld), contacted her through phone, on Tuesday evening, 29th of June, 2021., and told her that, he would be coming to their class as early as 7.00am, in order to complete his syllabus on time.
However, Oluwaseun added that, the lecture was supposed to commence from 8.00am - 9.00am, on that particular day.
Oluwaseun explained that the major students who committed the offence were not members of her class, because she couldn't recognize anyone of them after watching the video clip which went viral on social media.
She admitted that, all of them were at fault, for not being responsible enough and appealed to the school Management to forgive them for their unruly behavior.
