Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Alumni Association has launched her maiden edition of sport competition, which will commence next month of June, 2021.
This was revealed earlier on Friday, 28th of May, 2021., during the inauguration of a Local Organizing Committee (L.O.C.), put in place to pilot the upcoming programme.
According to report, the event has been slated to last for two weeks and will kick start on the 14th to 25th of June, 2021.
Alumni President, Femi Eyinola, who was represented by his General Secretary, Mr. Obanoyen Abiola, said ''the purpose of this event is to create an enduring relationship between Alumni and the undergraduate students of the institution''.
Obanoyen, however explained that the event will be majorly centered on Football competition, among the male and female students of the institution.
Speaking on the reward for prospective winners, Obanoyen said ''we have imported a golden trophy from Brazil and will be accompanied by medals for the first and second position''.
However, the Chairman of the L.O.C., Mr. Amodu, a lecturer from the Department of Hospitality Management and Technology (H.M.T.), applauded the gesture of the Alumni Association. Stating that the event will be able to nurture students' skills in sport, rather than being involved in fraudulent activities.
In addition, the preliminary matches are slated to hold between Faculties, headed by different Sport Directors in the institution, while the match fixtures for each game will be disclosed soonest.
Dignitaries at the inauguration were Mr. Aderibigbe Olumide (Coach Angelo), Faculty Sport Directors, among others.
